Attorney Matthew Torres

Matthew is a law student pursuing his J.D. at Marquette University Law School. With a passion for social justice and a background in criminology and social welfare, Matthew brings a unique perspective to the legal field. As a law clerk, he combines legal knowledge with empathetic communication skills to provide compassionate and effective support to clients.

Matthew is also currently the Clinical Teaching Assistant for the Marquette University Mediation Clinic, where he has honed his skills in alternative dispute resolution. Through mediation, Matthew has successfully facilitated resolutions in landlord-tenant cases and car collision disputes, helping parties find common ground and reach mutually beneficial agreements. His ability to actively listen and understand the needs of clients has been instrumental in achieving positive outcomes.

Beyond his work as a Law Clerk and in the Mediation Clinic, Matthew has actively contributed to the legal community as a leader. He serves as the President of the Hispanic Latino Law Student Association, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for students of Hispanic and Latin backgrounds. Additionally, as President of the American Constitution Society for Law and Public Policy, Matthew advocates and promotes discussions on legal and public policy issues.

Matthew was honored as the 2023 Scholarship Recipient by the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association and Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee. This recognition reflects his commitment to his studies, his Hispanic culture, and his potential to make a lasting impact in the legal profession here in Milwaukee.

Looking ahead, Matthew is eagerly preparing to compete in the Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Competition in the spring of 2024. His participation in this prestigious event showcases his passion for family law and his dedication to honing his litigation skills.

Matthew completed his undergraduate studies at Marquette University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Criminology and Law Studies & Social Welfare and Justice in 2021. During his time at Marquette, Matthew demonstrated leadership by managing the Service Learning Program and overseeing the engagement of over 2,000 students each year. This experience further developed his ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and understand the importance of community involvement.
